Subway warning doesn’t break holiday stride
A nice first-person vignette of commuting life in New York City, Wednesday, November 26, 2008, the day before Thanksgiving, written by Stokes Young, director of multimedia for MSNBC.com. Nice detail and inner monologue … the look from the girl, shying away from breaking the news about an unsubstantiated threat of terrorism … picking up his smokes as he leaves the station and heads to work … fine writing, no need for multimedia.
(Written Wednesday morning on the Manhattan-bound L and uptown F subway trains)

Kenyan Men Accuse U.S. of Renditions
The eight Kenyans were part of a group of 90 men, women and children who were illegally “rendered” from Kenya to Somalia and Ethiopia in early 2007. Most were released in May 2007, but the eight men were held for another 16 months. Their accounts were corroborated by Human Rights Watch (HRW), which conducted its own investigation. Two European diplomats in Nairobi, who have knowledge of counterterrorism work and spoke without attribution because of the sensitivity of the subject, confirmed that U.S. intelligence officials conducted interrogations on these prisoners in Addis Ababa.

“There are a couple thousand in Israel on Twitter,” he said. “We have lots of people using the Web sites registered as volunteers, and I am sure we will be able to use Twitter, which is an amazing tool. I have it on my phone, and I go around with Bibi and everywhere we go he gives me things to say on Twitter.”
